INCI: ORYZA SATIVA BRAN WAX
It is a treasure of biological resources in East Asia, where rice is a staple food. In terms of hardness and properties, this wax is on a par with carnauba wax and candelilla wax. The good compatibility of rice wax with the skin and its stability in creams, emulsions, ointments and balms have found applications in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Production method: it is obtained from fresh rice bran by pressing and alternating extraction and cooling processes, according to the following technological scheme: rice bran -< extraction -< rice bran oil -< refining -< rice wax. Concentration in recipes: – in balms and pomades: 1-10% (of the total weight of your recipe) or more, of the oil phase introduced – in emulsions (creams): 1-5% (of the total weight of your recipe), injected into the oil phase Method of use: melt the wax in a water bath with the other oil phase ingredients. Melting the rice wax requires a boiling water bath of about 90°C. Cosmetic use: this wax has a fairly high melting point and is therefore good at forming a dense texture in balms and lipsticks. It creates very soft, pleasant emulsions, light textures, very thin and gentle on the skin. Therefore ideal for thickening and stabilising creams, while providing a softening and protective effect. Cosmetic skin care products utilise the moisture-retaining properties of rice wax, while decorative cosmetics make use of the wax’s ability to form an elastic matte film. It is more often used in sticks, lipsticks, for making exfoliants. Rice bran wax helps to reduce excess sebum, which means that with regular use it minimises pores and makes wrinkles less visible.
