Isoamyl laurate is a naturally derived ester, created by combining isoamyl alcohol (from sugar beets or other plant sources) with lauric acid (often from coconut oil). In skincare, it’s used as a lightweight emollient and is popular in natural and eco-friendly formulations.
Some key benefits of isoamyl laurate include:
- Non-greasy feel: It provides a soft, velvety texture that leaves a smooth finish without greasiness.
- Fast absorption: It absorbs quickly into the skin, making it ideal for lightweight formulations.
- Good spreadability: Like heptyl undecylenate, it improves the spreadability of products, helping them glide smoothly over the skin.
- Enhances sensory experience: It can enhance the feel of a product, making it more luxurious and pleasant to use.
Due to these properties, isoamyl laurate is often used in natural skincare products aimed at providing hydration without a heavy or oily feel. It’s also commonly found in products marketed as non-comedogenic, as it doesn’t clog pores.
